Sorry, me being dyslexic again, you mention TV switches on at random times - not off. When you say random times, do you mean at night or during the day - or both? Thanks for you quick reply. The tv turns on both during the day and night. I have an xbox and BT YouView box attched to it. The BT box has to turn it's self on in order to record a scheduled recording but this should not turn the TV on. I have just connected my new smart tv to a talktalk box and also to the internet.
It keeps turning itself on randomly. Can anyone help. Yes, mine too. I have a 43wc. Randomly turns itself on night and day. I've turned the tv idle stand by ON. So the tv will switch itself OFF, should it turn on during the night, which it often does.Sony LED Tv Restarting Problem Solved
I also sometimes have to turn off the tv 3 times with the remote, as it turns itself back on straight after I turn it off. Try keeping TV disconnected from network wired and wireless and also remove all devices connected on your set HDMI or scart or whatever for a while to check if issue insists.
If issue stops then reconnect one thing at a time until you find what is triggering your TV to Power On. Community Share your experience! Turn on suggestions. Call it in for service. You have a power problem internal to the TV and something is overheating. Unless you know how to fix TVs you probably can't fix it yourself. Alright, thanks for the info, I will check out some places. We too have the same model 46" Bravia and recently were faced with the same symptoms you noted.
Can you confirm that once the screen goes dark and all sound stops that the green power light eventually stops and the red LED LAMP light blinks? If so, per page 43 of our User's Manual. I didn't know that this was a projection TV when I initially responded. My diagnosis still stands from a general perspective. Thanks for posting a more specific diagnosis. Just ordered a new XL lamp plus housing for our 46" Sony Bravia online from projectorquest.
XL replacement lamp from "projectorquest. Lamp took mere seconds to replace and about the same to reset the 'Lamp Replacement' option under the 'General' setting to provide an on-screen visual indicator prior to the next time the bulb needs replacing. In a minute at best the picture was even better than before and I now had the comfort of knowing such an item was safely owner serviceable. Also worthy of note, projectorquest even addresses lamp recycling by providing a postage paid return label for return of the burned out mercury lamp and housing. For some reason, my tv started to randomly shut off every minutes.
Well looks like i will be the best answer on this one haha. Turns out it was a bad power cable guys. I swapped it with the one in my PC and it is working just fine now. I should have probably checked that before posting haha. Thanks all for your inputs and i will make some of you as helpful posts for future reference. Whats the age of the TV? If it was a purchase in under a year, or if you have a extended warranty it should cover it.
My guess would be bad power supply or blown caps. Same as in a desktop or laptop computer. If it's under warranty take it in to have it looked at. What brand? Samsung had an issue with some of the touch panel capacitors that will cause the TV to do what you are describing. If it is that issue, it will probably get worse to the point the TV won't even turn on.
For specific models, there is a class action law suit that allowed us to get ours fixed well after the warranty had expired. A friend was having this issue on his Samsung television. We pulled the mainboard and replaced the two biggest caps on the board with something that had a higher tolerance. No problem since. Could also be a cold solder joint. Expands as it heats causing it to disconnect from it's associated part.
Good luck finding that though. Sometimes you can see it and sometimes you can't. Google the issue with your specific TV and see if it is a common one.
That's how I found out about the caps on the Samsung. Try getting a media center type surge protector. Also, I have a samsung and the buttons on the front or touch sensitive, I had a similar issue and cleaned the front panel really well and at the same time noticed my cable box was touching it, it may be as simple as one of those issues.
That if i recall right is the mainboard. I will have to check with my TV guy. Ill have to dig up the place that had cheap but good parts. This does sound like a hardware issue, but you may also want to see if there is a firmware update for your TV. I guess the only issue would be if it did the power cycle thing right in the middle of the update. Many people there are having this issue had a sleep setting.
I did too. Got the caps on my parents' 40" Samsung replaced at their house for free by the local TV shop.Edit: by the way I'm looking at you, sony! I have just started getting this problem on my 65WC. It has happened about four times now. I've tried disabling wifi, etc but nothing seems to work. It happens randomly, sometimes straight after I turn it off or hours later. I even set the screensaver to come on after 15 mins of inactivity but for some reason it doesn't work - it just sits on the static screen.
There is a Sony Bravia TV at my work that is used as a calendar. It gets switched off when we leave every afternoon. I have noticed that it is sometimes on when I come in to work in the mornings, sitting on a static screen. WiFi is disabled but it is connected via Ethernet. I've ruled out updates turning on the TV as mine turned on this morning when I had wifi disabled and no Ethernet connected. I also have a wc. Been doing that for almost a year now.
Sony bravia has android on board works like a computer has auto update feature change update time to when you are going to be up then you will see it turns on to update and restarts after and resumes what you were watching when you shut off.
I have a problem where the tv just turns itself on all on it's own at any hour randomly. I do not have any timers set.
Does anyone else have this problem. Because it has an internal clock so when time is set to update it turns on to do update then restarts. Community Share your experience!

I know this thread is old as nuts.
I'm doing it for almost half a year now and the TV didn't turned itself on anymore. September It's got nothing to do with WiFi, read the thread and you'll find it's because of synch issues. Dude, do as I mentioned. Edit: nevermind. I'm sorry, ignore me. October In the middle of the night, there's nothing more startling than hearing the familiar sound of your TV. Somehow, it has powered itself back on, leaving you confused and frustrated. You may be surprised to hear that a TV turning on by itself is a common problem with some simple resolutions.
This guide applies to all types and brands of TVs, especially those carried by Vizio, Samsung, and Sony. A TV that turns itself on or off isn't typically broken. A simple, easily fixed problem is usually the culprit. There might be a stuck power button on your remote, or the remote's batteries may be running low. An internal timer might accidentally be set to turn on the TV, or a connected device, such as a router, network device, or USB wireless LAN adaptor, might be causing a problem.

Most of the time, a TV that turns itself on or off is suffering from one of these generic fixes, regardless of the type or brand. Check to ensure the remote's power button isn't stuck. If it is, take the remote apart to perform a good, solid cleaning. Check the batteries in your remote. Low battery power can cause random signals to send to your TV, sometimes turning it on. If you have to press buttons more than once on your remote, the batteries might be low.
Change the batteries to see if this solves the issue. Look for an internal timer. For most TVs, it's easy to find timers in the Settings section of your remote.
Locate the timer on your Samsung Smart TV with your remote. Check any connected devices or cords for malfunction. Unplug one device from your TV at a time and leave overnight. Continue until your TV stops turning on by itself. Once you find the culprit, you may need to purchase a new cord or device, depending on your needs. During service provider updates, TVs can turn back on to apply the newly updated software.
If nothing works, reset your TV back to its original settings. This process is different for all TV brands, but both Samsung and Vizio have easy-to-follow reset instructions. Resetting your TV to factory settings will remove all of your custom settings from memory. To remember specific settings, make notes so you can update your TV after the reset. If a hard reset doesn't work, reach out to customer support.
You can find the support numbers online for your specific TV brand. For Samsung, either call or chat with support online. For Vizio, call or chat with an agent online.
